The Speaker Series is a fortnightly virtual speaker event showcasing the wealth of possible Futures for our community.
Speakers will talk about their own experiences as well as answer questions from the audience.
Open to all Aldridge students, families, staff and wider communities.
We are delighted to welcome Micky Dacks, CEO of I4YPC, as our first Aldridge Futures Speaker!
Monday 8th November 7pm
Micky is the CEO of I4YPC (Innit 4 Young People Charity), a charity that encourages young people to express themselves through the arts. Micky had a difficult time as a young person in Salford, experienced a period of homelessness and time in prison. With the support of his Probation Officer, by 2009, Micky had co-written, produced and directed the street-based urban musical ‘Innit’ based on his own experiences. The show premiered at The Lowry and worked to inspire youngsters to express themselves through creativity. Then in 2019, he founded I4YPC to encourage and inspire young people to express themselves through dynamic experiences of the arts.
“I didn’t have that great start in life. Because I was a kid I didn’t really understand it at the time. You don’t have the emotional intelligence to recognise your emotions. You’re trying to sort of hide from it. I was aware of being bullied, of being called a ‘pikey’ and ‘smelly’ but at the time you just have a coping mechanism. But it becomes a gremlin that you shoulder. If you are set low expectations from a young age how are you expected to move forward?”
