Dukes Aldridge Academy celebrates unparalleled success

Dukes Aldridge Academy is celebrating unparalleled success in this year’s GCSE results. In many of the subjects, the class of 2022 has outperformed the class of 2019, the last time any external examinations were sat. Subjects performing particularly well were English where 65% of students achieved a Grade 9-4 an increase of 9%; Mathematics where 70% of students achieved a Grade 9-4 an increase of 7%; Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French, Spanish, Geography, Drama, Computer Science, Design Technology, Food Technology, Health and Social Care, Photography and Textiles all achieved a 100% pass rate. Alongside some strong subject performances were some remarkable individual performances, in particular, Josnet Maselo who achieved the highest grade possible a Grade 9 in all of her subjects.

Principal Monica Duncan said: “These results reflect the hard work and dedication of our Year 11 students and we congratulate them all, we extend our sincere thanks to our staff for the unstinting effort and commitment they have shown and to our parent/carer(s) for the ongoing support that they have given to their children and our staff.”

Jane Fletcher, Chief Executive Officer at Aldridge Education stated, “we are immensely proud of what our students and staff have achieved today, this group of students lost a considerable amount of time with lockdowns, remote learning and staff absences due to Covid, which makes their achievement even more remarkable.”

Aldridge Speaker Series

The Speaker Series is a fortnightly virtual speaker event showcasing the wealth of possible Futures for our community.

Speakers will talk about their own experiences as well as answer questions from the audience.

Open to all Aldridge students, families, staff and wider communities.

We are delighted to welcome Micky Dacks, CEO of I4YPC, as our first Aldridge Futures Speaker!

Monday 8th November 7pm

Micky is the CEO of I4YPC (Innit 4 Young People Charity), a charity that encourages young people to express themselves through the arts.  Micky had a difficult time as a young person in Salford, experienced a period of homelessness and time in prison.  With the support of his Probation Officer, by 2009, Micky had co-written, produced and directed the street-based urban musical ‘Innit’ based on his own experiences.  The show premiered at The Lowry and worked to inspire youngsters to express themselves through creativity.  Then in 2019, he founded I4YPC to encourage and inspire young people to express themselves through dynamic experiences of the arts.

“I didn’t have that great start in life. Because I was a kid I didn’t really understand it at the time. You don’t have the emotional intelligence to recognise your emotions. You’re trying to sort of hide from it.  I was aware of being bullied, of being called a ‘pikey’ and ‘smelly’ but at the time you just have a coping mechanism. But it becomes a gremlin that you shoulder.  If you are set low expectations from a young age how are you expected to move forward?”
