StageEd – Blood Brothers GCSE Drama Workshop 

On Wednesday 18th September our GCSE Drama students in both years 10 and 11 got to take part in a workshop on their set text – Blood Brothers. StageEd theatre came into Duke’s to deliver the fantastic workshops and all students gained valuable insight into the play and also the performing arts industry. 

Professional actors Steve and Mike delivered the workshops and have both previously performed in the play both in the West End and on tour.  A fantastic experience for all our GCSE Drama students. 

Year 11 Cambridge Trip

This week also a group of year 11 students took part in a trip to Cambridge university. The trip was a brilliant insight into university life and STEM education.  All students thoroughly enjoyed the visit. 

Haringey African Schools Partnership Symposium 

On Friday 20th September our strings leadership group attended the Haringey African Schools Partnership symposium at City university. The students were able to meet other schools from the local area along with watching presentations remotely from some of the schools we are partnered with in African countries. The event was hosted by Hope in Haringey a local charity which Duke’s is proud to have a number of links with.

Science Trip to Belgium 2024

Two weeks ago a lucky group of year 11 students went on a trip to Belgium to the European Space Centre with Mr Ackbersingh, our Science technician. The trip was a huge success and every student that attended had an amazing time. 

The students were on a jammed pack trip to explore the many differing areas of science. On the trip the students got to experience a wide range of activities such as: a planetarium session, tours of caves and mediaeval castles, and the finale of the History of Science Lecture Series which the students have been attending for the last year!

What an amazing way to end the year for these students!

Activities Week 2024

We’ve had an incredibly busy week at Duke’s this week. Our Activities Week has seen students engaging in a huge variety of activities, trips, workshops and our very first Culture Day!

We’ve had trips out to Horizon 22, the Science Museum, the Bank of England, Harry Potter Studios, Microsoft, Cineworld, London Zoo and a walking tour of London (to name but a few).  

Students have also been engaging in lots of fun and exciting activities in school with Dance workshops, website building, clay modelling, willow artwork, maths challenges, charity drives, protest writing workshops and escape rooms all happening on site.

The week ended with our first ever ‘Culture Day’ – which was a chance for our students to celebrate culture and diversity – it was amazing to see such wonderfully vibrant clothes and costumes around the school. Our students have been wanting a day to celebrate culture for some time and this was a real chance for us to celebrate together as a community.

Duke’s Election 

In line with the General Election this week our students took to the polls for their own exercise in democracy. We held a student election at Duke’s ably organised by Ms Tuptuk and the humanities department.

Students submitted manifestos and campaigned amongst the student body with five candidates standing on their own policies in our mock election. 

On Thursday 4th July – the same day as the UK General Election our students were able to cast their votes at the ballot boxes in the Purple Diner and gain a real insight into the process of democracy – a real world example of British Values at work!
