Good News from Duke’s – 20th March 2025

Royal Albert Hall Extravaganza!

What a spectacular night to remember!

Haringey truly took centre stage at the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday, 18th March 2025 when a group of Duke’s students took to the stage to perform.

Musicians from all over Haringey came together for an unforgettable performance, featuring 1,200 singers from local primary and secondary school choirs. They performed an inspiring array of songs composed around the theme “Rock and Stars” by Lucie Treacher, under the direction of the Head of Haringey Music Service Dan Earley.

The evening was further enriched by the accompaniment of the Haringey Symphony Orchestra, Big Band, Guitar Orchestra, Steel Band, and the remarkable Haringey Vox, each showcasing their incredible talent and uplifting repertoire.

A heartfelt thank you to the Haringey Music Service Staff members for their dedication and effort in making this event possible! Well done also to Ms Danso for her hard work in bringing this event to fruition.

Hamilton Theatre Trip

In another exciting Arts related trip a lucky group of year 9s and 10s went into London’s West End to watch Hamilton. The performance was a schools matinee attended by a large number of schools from across the UK. The students had the most amazing time and were also introduced to a number of theatre roles and careers including backstage and technical roles.

Upfront Theatre Company

On Wednesday 19th March Upfront Theatre company came to Duke’s to perform a theatre in education play as part of year 9s PSHEe curriculum. The play focused on the themes of consent and relationships and was accompanied by a fantastic post show workshop.

Good News from Duke’s – 14th March 2025

There has been a lot going on at Duke’s this week. We’ve had some important messages and conversations in assembly and PSHEe between staff and students on the importance of staying safe and changed a number of our behaviour routines. This has resulted in a really calm and purposeful atmosphere in the school. We’re very proud of the way our school community has come together.

In addition, on Thursday of this week we saw the Haringey Young Musicians group attending Duke’s in preparation for the Royal Albert Hall performance taking place on the 18th March. Students playing multiple instruments were heard in the theatre practicing for what we know will be an amazing event.

Good News from Duke’s – 6th March 2025

It’s been a busy week this week at Duke’s. Our annual Book Week celebrations were fantastic with assemblies delivered by the English department and a wonderful parade of characters on World Book Day (Thursday 6th March). A huge number of creative costumes were on display from both staff and students.

We’ve also marked International Women’s Day this year with student assemblies delivered by Ms Scoggins along with a staff celebration on Friday 7th March. Happy International Women’s Day one and all!

Also happening at Duke’s this week…

Royal Albert Hall Cluster Rehearsal

Ahead of the Royal Albert Hall performance on the 18th March our school choir joined with local primary schools this week to rehearse songs and performances. The event was a great success and all the students really enjoyed themselves. We’re all very excited about the final performance – we’ll be sure to share lots of pictures of that when it happens!

Football Success

Huge congratulations to the year 9 football team who secured an impressive 7-1 victory against Heartlands School. This win has earned the team a spot in the semi-finals – they are now aiming to win the league for a consecutive year!

Good News from Duke’s – 28th Feb 2025

This week’s Good News round up comes courtesy of the PE department at Duke’s who wanted to share in a number of their exciting events so far this term.

The Indoor Athletics started in January and Year 7 and 8 have been competing in the Indoor Sports Hall Athletics at St Thomas More School. Following on from these events, we took a small group of our strongest athletes to compete in the Haringey Athletics Championships at Lee Valley Stadium yesterday and there were a number of successes. Cavalli in Year 9 won the 200m for the second year in a row, John in Year 10 won the 800m for a second year in a row and Kamarion also in Year 10 made it 3 years in a row in the 200m for his age group. All these boys will now have the opportunity to represent Haringey in the Middlesex Championships later in the Year. There were also second place finishes for Darius in the 60m, Michael Year 8, Cavalli Year 9 and John Year 10 in the Long Jump. Khyroe finished 3rd for Year 8 in the 200m and a special mention for Kimorae in Year 8 who was the only female athlete to take part and finished a respectable 5th in the 60m. Please congratulate the students when you see them as this event is attended by all 10 schools in the borough.

The PE department has an excellent relationship with the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation. With the foundation we are able to offer our year 7 pupils a chance to participate in a Sports Leadership course during curriculum time and help them build important social skills that will support their learning at Dukes. We were recently fortunate enough to have the match of The Day team come in and look at this course and speak to our students. You can see some of this at 50 mins and 20 seconds on the link below.

In the penultimate week before half term we also hosted all schools in the local area for the Haringey borough Badminton Tournament and were represented by two male teams at key Stage 3 and key Stage 4.

In Football Mr Durrant has been taking a number of fixtures for both our Year 8 and 9 Football teams. Our Year 9 boys are the reigning district champions and need a win in their final group game against heartlands to qualify for the finals day. They narrowly beat the team they beat in last year’s final Alexandra Park School, 2-1 in the final week of term to keep them in with a chance of qualifying.

Well done to the PE department – a great round up of their ongoing events and activities!
